Lips are notoriously susceptible to damage over time for many reasons. The skin on this area is very thin and delicate, which means it is weaker than the rest of our skin. Lips have fewer sebaceous glands, so they become parched and require constant hydration. They also only contain a trace of melanin, which means less natural sun protection (important to wear a balm with SPF!).
Along with these factors, as we age, our bodies start to lose collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, which are the building blocks of our skin. As these reduce, there is an appearance of deflation or loss of volume.
Injectable hyaluronic acid can be used to replace the lost volume within the lips. It can also be used to shape the lips, such as sharpening the cupids bow, improving thin lips or correcting asymmetry.
I am known for my natural lip augmentation, no ‘trout pouts’ leave my clinic. My goal is to create lips which appear to have always been there.
Results last 6-8 months on average, but this will vary based on individual anatomy, metabolism and lifestyle habits.
